I used to think the separation of chess into genders was just to protect women the way lighter weight boxers fight within their own weight class to avoid unfairly lopsided contests. Pia Cramling gives me the impression the woman's chess brain is not weaker than the man's chess brain, but rather *different*, in a positive way. My impression is that while both genders rely on towering analytical skills, men combine these analytical skills with with gladiator or warrior/hunter instincts, whereas women combine the towering analytical skills with an aesthetic and relational mindset. A woman's chess mind is beautiful and graceful; a man's chess mind is not beautiful, just powerful, efficient and aggressive.

Karpov was probably stronger than Kasparov, given the age difference during their matches, but was he stronger than Fischer? That we will never know.

5:50 and 08:00 Karpov implies that he was confident that he could beat Fischer. As proof, he says he did not have any serious preparation for many tournaments after 1975, because he used the preparations he did for Fischer during this time. This means, he must have had quite intensive preparation for Fischer. 1975-1985 he won many tournaments with those preparations. This gave Karpov the confidence that he would have won 1975 match.

Karpov fear Fischer. He was not ready for Bobby. That's why Soviet Union Chess Federation don't allowed the match for the World tittle..But I love Anatoly Karpov. He his a gentleman and one of the greatest chess players ever.

Fischer would have beaten Karpov by about the same score (4 games), because he was rated almost 100 points above Karpov. And even though Fischer had not played competitively in 3 years, he would have have prepared himself just like he did from 1968-1970 when he didn’t play, but then when he decided to play, he was virtually unbeatable. Was Fischer afraid of losing, yes, just like he was afraid of losing to Spassky, but he prepared and destroyed the best players of that era. Oh and by the way, Petrosian beat Korchnoi 5.5/4.5 in 1971 then lost to Fischer 6.5/2.5 for those who think Korchnoi could have beaten Fischer. Korchnoi gave Karpov trouble in 1978 for those of you who think Karpov could have beaten Fischer even in 1978.
